PICTORIAL: For kidnapping, police detain 67 suspects; others

 



According to the Nigeria Police Force, 67 people have been taken into custody nationwide on charges ranging from armed robbery and banditry to gun running and kidnapping.


ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force's public relations officer, revealed this in a message posted on the Force X account on Tuesday.


In addition, Adejobi stated that the police found 33 ATM cards, 68 guns, 300 live cartridges, 50 empty ammo shells, and 5,454 rounds of live ammunition.


A police official reported that three members of a gun-running organization connected to the Plateau State attacks on Christmas Eve had been apprehended.


He added that the police have taken custody of the suspects, Ahmed Sulaimon, Balikisu Aliyu, and Aboki Samuel, adding that they had discovered an AK-47 and an AK-49 rifle, as well as 1000 rounds of live ammo and five magazines.


The statement also describes the four suspects who were apprehended in connection with the bank heist in Otukpo, where nine AK-47 firearms were found.

Five suspects were killed by police gunfire after a gunfight in Taraku village, Benue State. As a result, they confessed to the murder and implicated other gang members who were still at large.





The statement said, "The Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Department Tactical Team-DFI-IRT and DFI-STS have successfully arrested 67 suspects for various crimes ranging from kidnapping, gunrunning, one-chance, armed robbery, and banditry across the country in furtherance to the sustained efforts of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to curb crimes and criminality across the nation.


In a similar vein, the police have found 33 distinct ATM cards, 68 rifles, 300 live cartridges, 50 empty ammo shells, 5,454 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, and more.


The arrest of three individuals who are part of a gunrunning syndicate in connection with the attack on certain villages in Plateau State on Christmas Eve stands out among these accomplishments; they are presently being held by the police and are offering assistance with the investigation.


Ahmed Sulaimon, Balikisu Aliyu, and Aboki Samuel are the three suspects. One AK-47 rifle, one AK-49 rifle, five magazines, and a thousand rounds of live ammo were found on them when they were apprehended.


Additionally, five suspects were killed in a fierce gunfight with police officers at their hideout in Taraku village, Buruku LGA, Benue State, while four suspects were arrested in connection with the bank robbery at Otukpo, where nine AK-47 rifles were recovered from the said suspects.


"They all admitted to carrying out the horrible deed and connected it to other gang members who are still at large. They also identified Terzungwe Shionda, popularly known as the '3-star general,' who is now deceased, Terlumum Pila, and one Ayuko as the people who lend them the weapons they need to carry out their activities.


"The Inspector General of Police (IGP) reaffirms that the Police will remain steadfast in their efforts to make Nigeria a secure environment for all citizens by vigorously combating criminal activity and offenders."
