Title of chieftaincy: Ubah criticizes Soludo for abdicating the monarchy

Igwe Damian O. Ezeani, the traditional ruler of Neni in the Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, was suspended. Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represents Anambra South, has responded to this development.

The Anambra State Government suspended Ezeani on Monday for giving Ubah a chieftaincy title. This action was taken through the state Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.

Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, signed the letter of suspension accusing the monarch of having granted titles to individuals without first obtaining state government approval, including "persons with questionable character."

The title "Odenjinji" of Neni, which is akin to the title held by the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, in his Isuofia community, was bestowed upon Ubah by the king during the Yuletide.

However, Ubah responded to the monarch's suspension by saying, "The whole game is all about politics," in a statement on Tuesday. Soludo finds my growing fame annoying.

"I'm not the only person who was given the title of chieftaincy. During the same time frame, Mr. President was honored in absentia, Vice President Kashim Shettima was also honored, and former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai was honored. What makes my own unique?

Ubah left the Young Progressives Party in October 2023 to join the All Progressives Congress. It is said that Ubah is preparing to run for governor in the state's 2025 governorship election.

Along with Senator Uche Ekwunife, another politician, he was admitted into the party in December. Research revealed that this move was intended to strengthen the APC in front of the state's 2025 governorship race.

In response to inquiries on the latest incident, Christian Aburime, the press secretary for Soludo, stated, "Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has consistently run for governorship and has been rejected by the electorate each time."

"So, Soludo cannot be afraid of such a person, as he has the unwavering backing of Ndi Anambra. People in Anambra, which is APGA territory, completely support Soludo.

Without mentioning politics at all, Aburime maintained that the monarch was suspended for breaking the Anambra traditional rulers' Code of Conduct.
