"I WANT A DIVORCE, MY WIFE IS IN CHURCH ALL THE TIME."

Aku Bakari, a government employee, brought his spouse, Mary, before a Nyanya customary court on Friday and requested a divorce. She was becoming overly interested in church activities, according to him.

In his divorce suit, the Nyanya Abuja resident petitioner accused his wife of reneging on her responsibilities as a wife and mother.

"My wife is constantly attending church, so she no longer has time for me or our kids. She occasionally spends Friday nights sleeping at the church till Sunday night.

He said, "She doesn't want to know if we eat or not."

The petitioner informed the court that his spouse had neglected her spousal responsibilities due to their religious beliefs.

He testified in court that he attempted to talk his wife out of attending that church, but she resisted.

"Until the year 2010, when I began to notice certain peculiar behaviors in my wife, especially her manner of dressing, we were living together as husband and wife blissfully.

She gave up wearing necklaces and jewelry, because they belonged to the devil.

At that point, I realized she was attending a another church where she was being brainwashed instead of our family church, the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, NCCN.

She refused to quit when I told her to. I want to divorce her because of this, he stated.

Mary, the cleaner who is the respondent, was present in court but refuted the accusations.

Doocivir Yawe, the presiding judge, suggested that the couple get back together for the benefit of the kids and postponed the case to January 30. (NAN)
